Licorice extract benefits - Licorice root tea benefits

Licorice Compound Kills 80% of Leukemia Cells: In this new study, researchers discovered that glycyrrhetinic acid potently killed up to 80% of human leukemia cells in vitro by inducing programmed cell death (apoptosis).

What makes this super-herb so powerful? Licorice contains numerous unique anti-cancer compounds such as glycyrrhetinic acid, licochalcone A and isoliquiritigenin which potently suppressed breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, melanoma and others in lab studies. Not surprisingly, licorice has been used for cancer in traditional Chinese medicine for over a thousand years.

Western medicine is finally catching up, and uncovering the other multiple health benefits of licorice, including immune system boosting (by lymphocyte activation), virus suppression (including hepatitis and influenza), and anti-bacterial activity (including H. pylori).

Licorice is such a powerful antioxidant that it’s been shown to reduce markers of oxidative stress, restore kidney function in diabetes, and even protect from the damaging effects of dioxin (in mice)—making it a great detox herb. For those needing an energy and mood boost, licorice could be the perfect snack. Well known for its ability to boost adrenal function, licorice was shown in two recent studies to be a natural antidepressant (in mice) by raising brain levels of dopamine and norepinephrine.
